Job Summary

Provide a high-quality academic environment using appropriate teaching and learning techniques in compliance with the college’s policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Responsible for instructional delivery of assigned course of study including facilitating material, communicating with students, evaluating activities, and corresponding with the college staff.

Job Duties

  • Plan, prepare and deliver quality classroom instruction utilizing the approved curriculum.
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and policies.
  • Incorporate active learning techniques to ensure the various learning needs of the individual students are met.
  • Develop/follow an instructional plan (lesson plan) for the course(s) and ensure that it meets industry, college and department standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with, and effectively use, relevant technology and media in classes.
  • Deliver dynamic and engaging lessons and use effective motivation to help stimulate a personal desire in students to learn the subject/skill(s).
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Terms, concepts, and principles are discussed and real-life examples related to the material are shared.
  • Respect the knowledge and experience that adult learners bring to the classroom; different viewpoints are presented; diverse backgrounds are considered; distinction is made between fact and personal opinion.
  • Provide students with academic support and refer them to additional assistance as required.
  • Motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity for their concerns and actively involving them in classroom discussions and/or activities.
  • Be courteous, positive, approachable, and professional. Lead by example by being a role model, both personally and professionally.
  • Promote a positive classroom environment.
  • Hold weekly office/open hours as directed by the campus.
  • Advise supervisor of any unforeseen late arrival or absence in advance of class start. Be prepared with an emergency lesson plan in case of such incidence.
  • Achieve assigned retention rates and course completion rates in accordance with the college guidelines without compromising academic quality and integrity.
  • Demonstrate mastery of subject matter.
  • Support the College’s policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Participate in College, Division, and Program activities.


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited educational institution preferred, with a minimum of 2 years prior online teaching experience.
  • Professional experience and proficiency within the area of expertise of 3 years or more as well as earned professional certifications and professional memberships (if applicable) as per the requirements of the PVI Act.
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of web-based presentation tools.
  • Demonstrated experience working as an instructor or an administrator in an online education setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with the practices of online education preferred.
  • Superior interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to complete assignments on time and accurately with minimal supervision.
