Position Summary:

As an industry-driven college, we prepare students for in-demand career opportunities in healthcare, business, and technology. The Career Services Coordinator will be an experienced business professional who is a skilled relationship builder and committed to encouraging, coaching and guiding students by sharing their expertise and real-world experiences.

Reporting to the Manager of Career Services, the Career Services Coordinator will be responsible for coaching and providing guidance to students to ensure they are equipped with the skills and information required to conduct themselves professionally within a workplace practicum placement; have the ability to develop a solid resume and cover letter; coach graduates in undertaking an effective employment search and help prepare graduates to interview for opportunities in their chosen field professionally and confidently. Students reside in various provinces and interaction is primarily via telephone or Email.

The Career Services Coordinator will also build and maintain relationships internal and external to the College which support Robertson College's goals related to helping students find practicum work placements and assist graduate students in finding employment.      

Essential Functions:

  • Establishes and maintains relationships and partnerships with a wide range of prospective employers and work placement hosts in public and private sectors, recruiting agencies, and job centres

  • Researches and recommends appropriate agencies/organizations that would meet the educational requirements for Robertson College students.

  • Delivers a 100% practicum placement rate

  • Provides career advisement and resources to students and recent graduates, including assisting students in identifying strengths and barriers to employment; developing job readiness, job search and career management skills;

  • Advises on resume preparation, cover letters, job search strategies, and interview techniques.

  • Maintains a student career resource centre, as well as provides assistance to students in the use of social media and tips and techniques to access relevant career information. 

  • Researches sector and industry employment trends, on an on-going basis; advises program areas and their students of job search strategies that speak to these trends. 

  • Provides regular statistical reports of day-to-day activities and outcomes. 

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 2 + years of work experience within business. A general or specific understanding of careers within healthcare, business and technology an asset. 

  • Experience in job readiness coaching gained through hands on experience in guiding others through the recruitment and hiring process.

  • Passion and ability to promote Robertson graduates to practicum and employer partners

  • Knowledgeable about the local labour market

  • Strong relationship building and customer service skills

  • An understanding of the needs of a diverse student population and how to interact effectively with a multi-cultural student body

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work and coordinate tasks in order to meet end results in a fast paced environment.
