We are seeking an Employment Specialist – Faculty of Health to support students and alumni seeking employment.

The Employment Specialist – Faculty of Health will be an experienced Health Care professional who is a skilled relationship builder and is committed to encouraging, coaching and guiding students by sharing their expertise and real-world experiences.

Reporting to the Manager of Career Services, the Employment Specialist – Faculty of Health will be responsible for coaching and providing guidance to students and graduates to assist in their job search. This includes resume and cover letter development and/or review, guidance in undertaking an effective employment search, and interview preparation. Students reside in various provinces and interaction is primarily via telephone or email.

This position will also build and maintain relationships internal and external to the College which support Robertson’s goals related to helping students find practicum placements and assist graduate students in finding employment.      

Essential Functions:

  • Contacts, develops, and maintains relationships and partnerships with prospective employers and practicum placement hosts 

  • Provides career advisement and resources to students and recent graduates, including assisting students in identifying strengths and barriers to employment; developing job readiness, job search and career management skills;

  • Advises on resume preparation, cover letters, job search strategies, and interview techniques.

  • Designs, develops and delivers workshops, written and electronic resources and training sessions on employment readiness

  • Researches sector and industry employment trends, on an on-going basis; advises program areas and their students of job search strategies that speak to these trends. 

  • Identifies and builds relationships with a wide range of employers in public and private sectors, recruitment agencies and job centres

  • Provides regular statistical reports of day-to-day activities and outcomes. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2 + years of work experience within Health Care (e.g. Health Care Aide, Nursing, etc.).  An understanding of careers within Health Care is an asset. 

  • Experience in job readiness coaching gained through hands on experience in guiding others through the recruitment and hiring process.

  • Passion and ability to promote Robertson graduates to employer partners

  • Knowledge about local labour markets

  • Strong relationship building and customer service skills

  • An understanding of the needs of a diverse student population and how to interact effectively with a multi-cultural student body

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work and coordinate tasks in order to meet end results in a fast paced environment. 

  • Must be able to provide a criminal records check and child abuse registry check
