Robertson College is seeking a Health Care Aide – Skills Lab & Theory Instructor

In this role you will be responsible to:

Theory Instruction

  • Instruct and evaluate students in their area of specialty with approved materials.
  • Develop &/or implement an instructional plan (lesson plan) for the course(s) they teach and ensure that it meets college and department standards
  • Plan lessons, assignments and tests where applicable
  • Keep up-to-date with, and effectively use, relevant technology and media in classes.
  • Assess students’ progress by grading papers, tests, and other work
  • Track student attendance.
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings and Professional Development Workshops
  • Implement and adhere to all college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties/participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Act as a mentor for students by developing action plans to assist students in achieving their goals
  • Stay informed about changes and innovations in their field 
  • Create dynamic and engaging classrooms to facilitate adult learners in achieving their learning objectives.
  • Be available to problem solve all students and staff for questions and concerns daily
  • Support and guide students in a positive learning environment on duties and responsibilities of a HCA
  • Complete weekly report on students and their progress
  • Document in computer based program on students’ performance

Practical Lab Instruction & Additional Duties

  • Teach step-step procedural skills to HCA students on associated duties/ responsibilities.  This includes, but not limited to: Correct usage of mechanical lifts (hoyer, sit-stand, ceiling), Positioning/ transferring, personal hygiene, standard precautions, urinary & bowel elimination equipment & care, bed-making, feeding/swallowing, wound care, etc
  • Performs assessments on students return demonstration of required skills
  • Maintain supplies in lab (ordering and distribution)
  • Scheduling of labs with new classes, adding onto theory instructors calendars/stitch in
  • Notifying Instructors of schedule in advance
  • Perform assessments/tests of all students as per lab schedule
  • Organize field trips & external training sessions
  • Liase with Clinical Coordinator on practicum placement visitsRecording & Documenting Red Cross CPR Rosters
  • Liase with Coordinators/ Instructors regarding uniforms/ lab coat fittings & place orders with suppliers


  • Must have a minimum of 5 (full time) years of nursing hands on/ bed side care experience, and must include Geriatric nursing.
  • Teaching experience is required, both theoretical & practical application.
  • Possession of an Adult & Continuing Education Certificate is an asset
