Course Outline

(32 week program)

Business Communication
Students will study the process of communication in the business context; allowing them to make better choices in their communication.

Accounting Fundamentals I
This course introduces financial accounting, GAAP, the accounting cycle and financial statements.  It covers merchandising, accounting information systems, and accounts receivable.

Accounting Fundamentals II
This course introduces corporate accounting.  It includes capital assets, current liabilities, partnerships, corporate financial statements, equity financing, corporate reporting, bonds and long term notes payable, cash flow analysis and reporting and analyzing financial statements.

Quickbooks
This course teaches the concepts of using the computerized accounting software Quickbooks.  Students will learn how to employ the accounting concepts learned in previous courses via this business focused software.

Simply Accounting I & II
Students will learn to complete accounting tasks using Simply Accounting.  Beginning with a company file and entering transactions for general ledger, accounts receivables, accounts payable, inventory, and managing capital expenses.

Payroll Compliance Legislation
This course will provide students with the payroll-related legislation affecting organizations, as well as the tools to find information and apply that information to different scenarios in relation to individual pay.

Payroll Fundamentals I
This course covers all components of individual pay from remuneration, through deductions, to net pay for both regular and non-regular situations.

Payroll Fundamentals II
This course covers remittances to federal, provincial and third party stakeholders as well as preparing accounting documentation for payroll and year end.

Microsoft Word (Levels 1 & 2)
This course introduces the student to Microsoft Word where they will learn the basics of  this word possessing software. Level two demonstrates advanced features of Word to produce professional documents, collaborate with others, and merge data together.

Microsoft Excel (Levels 1 & 2)
This course introduces the student to Microsoft Excel where they will learn the basics of this spreadsheet software. Level two introduces the student to advanced features of Excel such as format, analyze, calculate and protect worksheets.

Customer Service
This module provides a foundation for customer service and also focuses building life-long customer relationships though the development of positive customer- care approaches. Students will develop skills needed to provide excellent customer service.

Bookkeeping
This course introduces the student to manual bookkeeping. The student will learn about using  journals, preparing financial statements,  and the processes involved with manual bookkeeping.  This course will provide an understanding of bookkeeping that can be applied when using bookkeeping software.

Office Procedures
This course introduces the student to what’s involved in a career as an office professional. Human relations; time, work and resource management; organization structure and office layout; office technology; front-line reception; aspects of business communication specific to the office professional; office commerce and record keeping; and professional development are areas that will be covered in this course.

Microsoft PowerPoint
This module introduces the student to Microsoft PowerPoint where they will learn the basics of this slide presentation software.

Microsoft Access
This module introduces the student to Microsoft Access where they will learn the basics of this database software.

Introduction to Personal Computers
This module introduces the student to the basics of computers based on the operating system of Windows XP.
