The phone is ringing and patients are waiting for attention.
A doctor has asked you to research some information and you know he needs
to have it as soon as possible.
There are charts to update, orders to be transcribed and admissions/discharges to be handled.
Still, you know that, at any moment, an emergency might arise that puts everything else on hold.
It’s a challenging profession . . . and you love it!
Part of a Team
The Health Care System has a lot of players. Doctors and nurses . . . surgeons
and specialists . . . administrators and clerks . . . they all have a role to play. In
the end, the system only works because of the teamwork of everyone involved.
That’s where you come in.
As a Health Unit Clerk you’re the one who keeps the information and
communication flowing. It’s a critical role in a critically serious business. After all,
lives could be at stake.
A Skilled Profession
Not everyone can do your job.
You need to understand medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. You
need all the skills of an administrative assistant, too. You also need to be able to
handle people.
Robertson College training gave you those skills . . . and you’re good at your job.
More Than Multi-Tasking
Your profession requires maturity. You have to mix compassion with
assertiveness . . . organized thinking with an ability to adapt at a moment’s
notice. You need to handle a hundred details at the same time and do it flawlessly. To you, multi-tasking is just a word. What you do is almost magic.
Exciting Possibilities
You might choose to work in a doctor’s office, or a personal care home. Maybe
you prefer the fast pace of a hospital setting. The choice is yours, and you can
make it knowing that you’re up to the challenge!
