BECOME A HEALTH CARE AIDE
Robertson’s Health Care Aide program from our Edmonton campus will prepare you to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Our in-depth and hands on approach to teaching provides our students with practical experiences working in the health care field and provides them with the skills necessary to succeed. Our small class environment allows instructors to give individual attention to every student, answering questions and making them feel like an important individual. At the end of your Health Care Aide program, you will participate in a six-week work practicum. Once your practicum has been completed, Robertson’s Career Services will work with you to ensure you find employment after you graduate. Whether it’s after graduation or twenty-five years down the road, Robertson’s Career Services will be there to help you with your career.

Gail Phillips
Featured Instructor – Health Care Aide
Gail Phillips graduated from the Licenced Practical Nursing program at Norquest College in 1988. Since her graduation she has worked in various areas of active treatment as well as long term care. She worked in and managed units of a designated assisted liviing facility. She acted as the manager of a CO-OP housing facility for wheelchair bound residents who directed their own care. Over the past 8 years Gail has taught both the Health Care Aid and PLAR programs numerous times. When Gail is not teaching at Robertson College, she enjoys spending time with her family as well as camping and travelling.

What is a Health Care Aide?
Health Care Aides, Home Care Attendants, and Personal Support Workers are indispensible to hospitals and care facilities everywhere. They play an integral role in assisting patients with mobility and hygiene, providing palliative care, and working with patients who suffer from mental health issues. If you get great satisfaction from caring for those who need it most, then this is the career for you.
Our Health Care Aide program will teach you how to:
Carefully assist persons with medications
Properly prepare meals and ensure patients receive proper nutrition
Help patients with mobility issues, cognitive impairment and ongoing conditions
Implement care plans and accurately communicate the information
Accurately manage admission, transfer and discharge procedures for patients
