Health Unit Clerks help manage the day to day operations of a hospital ward. They are
responsible for a variety of areas. When a patient is admitted or discharged, the health
unit clerk processes the necessary forms. When a test needs to be performed, the
health unit clerk schedules it. In addition, Health Unit Clerks are typically in charge of
several behind the scene tasks such as keeping the drug supply stocked, managing
equipment, and relaying information between patients and staff. Graduates of this
program can expect to work in Health Unit Clerk, Unit Clerk and Ward Clerk positions.

The Health Unit Clerk program at Robertson College has been designed to provide you with real world skills
in a variety of hospital settings. Throughout the program you will be introduced to Anatomy, Physiology and
Medical Terminology, the role of the Health Unit Clerk, Patient Chart Transcription, and gain computer skills
in Microsoft Office.
At the end of your program, you will participate in a six week work practicum. The practicum will provide you
an opportunity to apply your newly acquired skills in a real world setting with the support of your instructor
and our Career Services department.
