Robertson’s Medical Laboratory Assistant program at our Winnipeg campus will prepare you to be a vital member of any medical team. Our hands-on approach to teaching provides our students with real-world experience and equips them with the skills necessary to succeed. Our small class environment allows students a greater opportunity to ask questions, participate in discussion and have instructors who actually know who they are. At Robertson's Winnipeg campus, you are an individual, not a nameless spectator.
At the end of your program, you will participate in a four-week work practicum. Once your practicum has been completed, Robertson’s Career Services will work with you to ensure you find employment after you graduate. With over ten years of experience working in the Medical Laboratory Field in clinical and hospital settings, Irene has an acute understanding of the Medical Laboratory Assistant role. She has a Master’s of Science Degree in Medical Technology and is proficient in HIV Testing, Drug Testing and Transfusion Medicine. Irene has been an Instructor at Robertson College since 2010.

What is a Medical Laboratory Assistant?
Medical Laboratory Assistants are important to hospitals, private and public health laboratories, clinics, research laboratories, commercial diagnostic supply companies, and insurance companies. They play an integral role in collecting and preparing specimen samples, running simple lab tests and running lab machinery. In this role, you will be assisting other laboratory workers such as Medical Laboratory Technologists.
Our Medical Laboratory Assistant program will teach you how to:
Skillfully collect and prepare specimen samples
Run necessary laboratory machinery
Carefully conduct simple laboratory tests
Handle specimens properly
Effectively sterilize lab equipment
