Administrative Office Procedures - 20 hours
An introduction to common office procedures, such as human relations; organization structure and office layout; office technology; front-line reception; aspects of business communication specific to the office professional and record keeping.
MS Office Applications - 80 hours
Prepares students to perform functions common to all Microsoft Windows applications. Elements include the ability to create and manipulate Word, Excel, or PowerPoint applications, modify the display of toolbars and other on-screen elements, use online help, and perform file management, editing, formatting and printing functions common to most Windows applications.
Keyboarding - 20 hours
Improves touch typing skills on a keyboard with a focus on improving speed and accuracy. This course increases job efficiency and understanding of work station ergonomics.
Business Communications - 60 hours
Focuses on the essential skills for basic business writing and professional interaction. This course also emphasizes the role technology plays in the workplace to enhance communication.
Customer Service - 20 hours
Provides a foundation for customer service, and focuses on building lifelong customer relationships through the development of positive customer care approaches.
Career Preparation - 40 hours
Introduces students to strategies for a successful job search, interview and career management.
Bookkeeping - 80 Hours
An introduction to basic bookkeeping practices and procedures. Students gain experience with typical bookkeeping functions, including recording journal entries, posting to ledgers, and preparing a variety of statements.
Financial Accounting - 80 hours
Familiarizes students with basic accounting terms, basic accounting tools and preliminary accounting processes.
Quickbooks Accounting - 60 hours
Familiarizes students to one of the most commonly used accounting softwares. This course utilizes a diversity of companies, business situations and realistic source documents to simulate “real” accounting transactions. Understanding how accounting software processes accounting transactions combined with the student’s knowledge of fundamental accounting principles will create competency in using QuickBooks in the workplace.
Sage Accounting - 60 hours
Introduces students to the popular Sage computerized accounting software that many small to medium sized businesses use today.
Introduction to Human Resources - 20 hours
Reviews of the human resource functions that assist an organization deliver value through proper management of the employee life cycle.
Excel for Accounting - 20 hours
Teaches students to streamline repetitive tasks and display spreadsheet data in more visually effective ways using more of Excel’s built-in functions to perform complex calculations. Students learn to create charts, use graphics and develop data management skills in an Excel spreadsheet.
Accounting Technician Program Practicum
At the end of the program, students will participate in a 4-week practicum to gain valuable work experience before graduation.
Brooke Barker has over 20 years of experience in the private career college industry in Winnipeg, both as an administrator and as an instructor. Prior to joining Robertson College, Brooke was an instructor of conversational English in Thailand for 10 years. He is also the author of a basic bookkeeping textbook that has been used in private and public educational institutions for 25 years.
Jackie Linklater has enjoyed a business career for over 20 years. Most recently, Jackie worked for Enbridge as part of their Project Controls team, working at various sites across Canada. Her responsibilities included cost control and she identified significant cost savings for various construction projects. Prior to that, Jackie worked for CIBC for 12 years and for a prominent vehicle dealership in the accounting department – managing both their accounts payable and receivables. Her passion has always been contributing to the success of the various teams she has been a part of. Jackie is a graduate of the Red River College Business Administration program, majoring in Accounting.
Herbert Herrera, CPA, CGA, has over 17 years of accounting experience working in both the private and public sectors. Herbert has over 5 years of public practice experience in Canada, catering to small and medium-sized businesses in Manitoba. Currently, he is a registered mentor for the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) for practical experience requirement and is a part of Futurpreneur Canada.
