The Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper diploma program is designed to give you an understanding of office procedures, bookkeeping, and Sage computerized accounting software. As a graduate of this program, you will be able to obtain an entry-level position as an Administrative Assistant or Bookkeeper.

Topics of Study
Administrative Office Procedures - 60 Hours
This course introduces the student to a variety of office procedures that are essential to a smooth and efficient operation. Students will learn to manage data and record management systems as well as appropriate file organization. Project management skills combined with general office skills provide a foundation on which to manage daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. Students will also learn how to plan meetings and conferences, and make travel arrangements.
Bookkeeping - 80 hours
This course introduces basic bookkeeping practices and procedures. Students will gain experience with typical bookkeeping functions including recording journal entries, posting to ledgers, and preparing a variety of statements.
Business Communication - 60 hours
Communication remains an essential skill sought by employers, regardless of discipline or field of study. Using a practical approach, students develop strong oral, written, body language and presentation skills to become effective business communicators. Learners will continue to strengthen professional writing, speaking, reading, listening skills, as well as using technology to communicate professionally in a business context. In addition, learners will use communication technology tools to support operations in the workplace.
Business Management Skills - 60 hours
General business office management skills such as accounting, problem-solving, and basic sales and marketing techniques are essential to any office. Students will learn these business skills as they relate to the specific profession.
Career Preparation - 40 hours
This course introduces learners to career preparation strategies. Learners will be introduced to job search strategies, interviews and other career management strategies.
Customer Service - 20 hours
This course provides a foundation for customer service, and recognizes that clients and colleagues can all be considered customers. Focus is on building customer relationships through the development of positive customer care approaches that includes respect for diversity and ensures organizational integrity.
Digital Technology - 60 hours
This course allows students to understand, communicate, and adapt to a digital world as it impacts their personal life, society, and the business world. Students will learn to use electronic tools, systems, devices and resources in a business environment to enhance communication and business opportunities.
Introduction to Human Resources - 20 hours
This course provides a general overview of the human resource functions that assist an organization deliver value through proper management of the employee life cycle.
Keyboarding - 20 hours
Students will learn the fundamental skills to become proficient in keyboarding techniques, achieving 40 words per minute with three errors or less.
Microsoft Office Applications - 80 hours
This course will prepare students to perform functions common to all Microsoft Windows applications. Elements include the ability to create and manipulate Word, Excel, or PowerPoint applications, modify the display of toolbars and other on-screen elements, use online help, and perform file management, editing, formatting and printing functions common to most Windows applications.
Professionalism - 40 hours
Being a professional in a professional workplace ensures a positive first impression, successful interpersonal relationships and a lasting reputation. This course provides training in leadership skills that ensure adaptability to a continually changing work environment. Topics covered include initiative, teamwork and continuous learning.
Sage 50 - 60 Hours
This course is designed to introduce learners to the popular Sage 50 computerized accounting software that many small to medium sized businesses use today.
Workplace Health and Safety - 20 hours
Administrative Office Assistants are responsible for creating a safe work environment while engaging in self-protection to maintain their own health and well-being. Students will learn how to set up and maintain a safe work environment when working alone and/or with clients and colleagues. Universal precautions and infection control techniques will also be covered. Students will explore ergonomically sound work practices.
Practicum - 160 hours
The practicum is required for learners in order to gain and apply the knowledge and skills learned throughout all other courses in the program. Learners will gain confidence in skills as they progress. All program competencies are practiced and evaluated by the practicum employer(s) or mentor.

Tuition & Fees
Total amount is inclusive of all program registration fees, training completion fund, ebooks and courseware. The tuition amount for Manitoba enrolment contracts also encompasses a Training Completion Fund (TCF) fee.

The practicum is an essential part of a learner’s program. It is both a graduation requirement and an extension of in-class learning. The practicum asks you to apply the skills, theories, and concepts that you learned in your classes in an entry-level work experience situation.
Practicum must begin and end within the dates outlined in your program schedule and enrolment contract. Practicum is a full-time, unpaid commitment, and is jointly-procured — where you work directly with our Practicum team to obtain a training-related placement. Your active participation with our Practicum team in the search for your practicum placement will enhance your career development skills, industry networking opportunities, and professional communication skills.
