Program Overview

Work as a Health Care Aide in Manitoba

In order to qualify for the Health Care Aide Challenge program at our Brandon campus, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have 1200 hours of work experience within the past 24 months as an uncertified Health Care Aide in Canada or as a foreign-trained nurse
  • Demonstrate proof of English language proficiency
  • Have an updated resume
  • Have a completed employer form from your current employer stating hours and detailed job description

If you are applying as a foreign-trained nurse, please note that we will require a copy of your degree as not all foreign nursing programs are accepted.  For more information, please make an appointment with one of our Career Counsellors.

Health Care Aide Challenge Program Practicum

At the end of your program, you will be required to complete a minimum of 8 hours of practicum.

Application Process

If English is your first language:

  • Applicants must make an appointment to write an entrance test or provide documentation of high school diploma
  • Applicants must have a completed application form

If English is your second language:

  • Applicants must provide one of the following to the college:
      • A Canadian high school diploma
      • Proof of English proficiency test (Ex. CLB, IELTS, TOEFL or similar. See below for additional information on what is accepted)
  • Applicants must have a completed application form

CLB: 6(L), 6(S), 6(R), 5W
IELTS: 4.0 – 5.0
TOEFL: 41 – 60

Other Requirements:

  • Copy of Photo ID & Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Current Criminal Records check with vulnerable sector search
  • Up to date immunizations
