Work as a Health Care Aide in Manitoba
The Health Care Aide Challenge program will be of interest to foreign-trained nurses and those who are currently working as uncertified Health Care Aides in Manitoba.
Health Care Aide Challenge Checklist:
- Have 1200 hours of work experience within the past 24 months as an uncertified Health Care Aide in Canada or as a foreign-trained nurse
- Have a completed employer form from your current employer stating hours worked along with a detailed job description
- Demonstrate proof of English language proficiency
- An up-to-date resume
- Copy of photo ID
- Copy of your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Current Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Up-to-date immunizations
If you are applying as a foreign-trained nurse, please note that the college will require a copy of your degree as not all foreign nursing programs are accepted.

Health Care Aide Challenge Program Practicum
A two-week practicum is included for foreign-trained nurses going through the challenge program. There is no practicum required for individuals already working in hospitals or personal care homes in Manitoba.

Bernadette V. Bishop
Jag Mark Astudillo is a health care clinical instructor with Robertson College. Jag is an internationally-educated Nurse and Health Care Aide with a passion for helping others. Jag has experience as a Home Support Worker and is excited to have the opportunity to interact and share his knowledge and experiences with his students.
Camille is a certified Health Care Aide with many years of experience in the health care field in both the Philippines and Canada. Prior to becoming a Health Care Aide with a loal seniors residence, Camille was a nursing instructor at a college in the Philippines. Camille holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Trinity University of Asia in the Phillipines and completed 2 years of pre-medicine education in Human Biology at De La Salle University of Philippines. Camille has been an instructor with Robertson College since November of 2014 and enjoys sharing her years of experience with her students
Sara Reid is an instructor for the Health Care Aide Challenge program at Robertson College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from University of Manitoba in 2006, received Gerontological Nursing Certification from the Canadian Nurses Association in 2010, and Diploma in Health Services Management from Red River College in 2011. She also has work experience as a Nurse Manager.
Bernadette Bishop is a certified Health Care Aide with over 21 years of experience. Bernadette has worked with community health facilities, Concordia Hospital as well as the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA). In 2008, Bernadette obtained her degree in Nursing from the University of Manitoba and worked as a nurse at Concordia Hospital before joining Robertson College as an instructor in 2010. She currently teaches the Health Care Aide portion of our Nursing Assistant program.
Soobha Radoyal is an instructor for the Health Care Aide program at Robertson College and was a nurse instructor in the past. She has a Diploma in General Nursing, Diploma in Nursing Education & Administration, Diploma in Hospital Management, Diploma in Health Services Mmanagement, Bachelor in Nursing Science (BN) and a Major in Nursing Education & Health Services Management.
Gilbert Ordinario teaches in our health care programs including the Health Care Aide program, Health Care Aide Challenge program, and the Health Care Aide portion of our Nursing Assistant program. Gilbert started his career in health care over 20 years ago, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Centro Escolar University in the Philippines. From there, he went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santo Tomas. Throughout his expansive career, Gilbert has worked as a Medical Officer and Officer in Charger, Criminologists’ Licensure Examination Reviewer throughout the Philippines. Gilbert enjoys sharing his knowledge, skills and real life experiences with his students. He was a part-time Professor at Quirino State University and Cagayan Valley Colleges of Quirino before moving to Canada.
Roma has over 20 years of experiences working in all areas of nursing and has been working at Simkin Centre for the past 18 years. Roma first receive her LPN diploma and licence in 1983 and has since received training in Foot Care, PIECES, and Communications in Palliative Care. Roma specializes in Geriatrics with a special focus on Dementia patients. She is always interested and passionate about improving the level of care that she can provides and is looking to further her studies in Palliative Care. Roma is a Health Care Aide Challenge instructor at Robertson College and helps qualified health care professionals obtain their certification in Manitoba.
