
Health Care Aides provide personal assistance and support services for elderly, disabled,
acute or chronically ill people who require short term assistance or ongoing support.
Health Care Aides work under the supervision of a nurse or heath professional. Health
Care Aides provide basic health services for clients who have medical conditions or
major functional limitations. They provide the physical and emotional support clients
need to be as independent as possible in the community, hospitals or long-term care facilities.
Health Care Aides work in hospitals, long-term care facilities or within the community. Graduates have
found employment working as Health Care Aides, Personal Support Workers, Nurses Aides or as Home
Care Workers.

The Health Care Aide program at Robertson College will certify you as a Health Care Aide. Throughout the
program you will be introduced to the role of the worker, how to perform proper transfers and lifts as well as
interpersonal skills.
At the end of your program, you will participate in a work practicum. The practicum will provide you an
opportunity to apply your newly acquired skills in a real world setting with the support of your instructor and
our Career Services department.
