Overview

We are seeking Instructors for our Medical Lab Assistant program to guide and prepare students for entry-level positions in the field. Instructors will teach with Hybrid to develop and deliver: synchronous and asynchronous course content through D2L (Brightspace) and scheduled webinars. Laboratory courses will also be taught on site at our Winnipeg campus location, 180 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB.

Medical Laboratory Assistants play an essential role in hospitals, private and public health laboratories, clinics, research laboratories, commercial diagnostic supply companies and insurance companies.

 

The Medical Laboratory Assistant Program is committed to:

  • Graduating students who are able to pursue a career in the rapidly growing field of Medical Lab Assistants
  • Providing a quality Medical Laboratory Assistant program that aligns with the existing Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) competencies
  • Preparing graduates to successfully pass the CSMLS Examination
  • Preparing graduates to find successful employment in hospitals, clinics, and private labs
  • Encouraging graduates to recognize the need for continuing education and professional affiliation.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY
The instructor is responsible for delivering course content in a dynamic and engaging manner; designing, implementing and correcting assignments/projects; and actively implementing course curriculum. As an Instructor, you will observe and adhere to all company policies and best practices.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Share industry-related knowledge, expertise, and passion with the students
  • Respond to student inquiries and provide feedback in a respectful and timely manner
  • Record student attendance and grades
  • Develop and maintain a supportive learning community
  • Provide guidance and support to adult learners
  • Deliver course content via Brightspace/D2L Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Deliver instruction that meets course and program objectives as set out in the curriculum
  • Evaluate student performance fairly, promptly and consistently
  • Collaborate with other teams (Student Support, Practicum and Career Services, Centre for Teaching and Learning, etc.) to contribute positively to the student experience
  • Support the administrative functions of the campus to enhance the student experience
  • Act in a manner that upholds the professional expectations and standards of Robertson College
  • Maintain an online presence in the Brightspace LMS by challenging, engaging, and communicating with students to encourage their participation and learning
  • Evaluate and post grades in a timely manner

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program or Medical Lab Technician is required.
  • 3+ years of work experience as a Medical Lab Assistant or Medical Lab Technician in Canada is required if applicable
  • A combination of education and work experience in the field of health laboratory science may be considered.
  • Must hold a valid Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification if applicable.
  • Familiar with CSMLS standards and industry needs an asset.
  • Experience with accreditation process is an asset
  • Experience instructing adults and/or delivering (individualized or group) workplace training is an asset
  • Certificate in Adult Education is an asset.

LOCATION AND HOURS OF WORK

Hybrid – Work from home and on campus. 20 hours per week. Must be available from Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and/or 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. and/or 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Central Time for on campus labs if required
