Quickbooks

Familiarizes students with one of the most commonly used accounting software. This course utilizes a diversity of companies, business situations and realistic source documents to simulate “real” accounting transactions. Teaches students how accounting software processes accounting transactions. Explains fundamental accounting principles. Creates competency using QuickBooks in the workplace.

Sage Accounting

Introduces students to the popular Sage computerized accounting software that several small to medium-sized businesses use today.

Bookkeeping

Introduces students to basic bookkeeping practices and procedures. Students gain experience with typical bookkeeping functions, including recording journal entries, posting to ledgers and preparing a variety of statements. The course emphasizes a hands-on approach to manual bookkeeping.

Business Math

This course introduces students to the business mathematics used within the accounting profession. Students will review simple calculations and perform more complex calculations including decimals, fractions, percentages, and ratios. Students will use business math to calculate currency conversion, compound interest, trade discounts, markups and markdowns, break-even, and other business calculations.

Business Taxation

This course introduces students to Goods and Service Tax (GST) principles and regulations. Students will develop the skills to complete accurate tax returns, develop the skills to correct tax errors and omissions, and understand the implication of GST reporting errors on an organization.

Career Preparation

Introduces students to strategies for successful job searching, interviewing, and career management. Students understand who they are, the skills they offer, what to expect from professional employment and what employers expect of them.

Business Communications

Focused on essential skills for basic business writing and professional interaction. This course also emphasizes the role technology plays in the workplace to enhance communication.

Microsoft Office Applications

This course will prepare students to perform functions common to all Microsoft Windows applications. Elements include the ability to create and manipulate Word, Excel, or PowerPoint applications, modify the display of toolbars and other on-screen elements, use online help, and perform file management, editing, formatting and printing functions common to most Windows applications.

Elements of Costing

This course introduces students to the importance of costing as a source of information for organizational decision-making. Students will develop skills in performing costing systems which include labor, material, overhead, and other variables. They will learn how to report on costing and provide information on organizational performance.

Financial Transactions

This course introduces students to financial transactions. Students will develop the skills to process customer and supplier transactions and record these using cash books and ledgers. They will develop the skills to identify the accuracy of customer and supplier documents and learn to deal with outstanding debt.

Intermediate Accounting

This course introduces students to the basic elements of double-entry bookkeeping and the standards used to process and report financial information to users. Students will develop an understanding of how to draft financial documents related to the purchase and disposal of assets, depreciation, and period-end adjustments.

Internal Controls

This course introduces students to the importance of the accounting cycle and implementing internal controls within the profession. Students will explore different methods of internal controls such as documentation, the use of regulations, policies, and requirements. They will also become familiar with the external audit process. Students will develop the skills to identify unethical and illegal acts and to report these behaviors.

Personal Taxation

This course introduces students to personal taxation principles and regulations. Students will develop an understanding of deductions, capital gains, losses and taxable income. They will develop the skills to prepare and submit personal tax returns.

Payroll Compliance Legislation

Provides students with the payroll-related legislation affecting organizations, as well as the tools to find information and apply that information to different scenarios in relation to individual pay. Students who complete this course know the payroll compliance responsibilities that affect organizations, comprehend payroll legislation, and effectively communicate these to all stakeholders. Payroll Compliance Legislation is offered through the National Payroll Institute (NPI).

Payroll Fundamentals 1

Equips students with both knowledge and practical application in applying payroll legislation and calculating individual pay. Includes all components of individual pay from remuneration, through deductions, to net pay for both regular and non-regular situations. Students develop the ability to effectively communicate all aspects of the individual pay calculations to external and internal stakeholders. Payroll Fundamentals 1 is offered through the National Payroll Institute (NPI).

Payroll Fundamentals 2

Provides students with the knowledge and skill to calculate and report government and third party remittances, year-end requirements and accounting for payroll at the compliance level for an organization. Students learn to effectively communicate these organizational processes and requirements to internal and external stakeholders. Payroll Fundamentals 2 is offered through the National Payroll Institute (NPI).
