Program Overview

Executive assistants manage office duties and support an organization executive in their work. With our Business Administration – Executive Assistant Diploma Program, you’ll learn all the skills you need to become an invaluable asset to executives across all industries.

This program is licensed under Alberta’s Private Vocational Training Act (PVTA) and Manitoba’s Private Vocational Institutions Act (PVIA).

  • Gain the knowledge and tools to communicate effectively and professionally in the workplace
  • Learn to perform functions common to all Microsoft Windows applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Topics of Study

Administrative Office Procedures - 60 Hours

Introduces students to common office procedures. Topics such as human relations; organization structure and office layout; office technology; front-line reception; aspects of business communication specific to the office professional; and record keeping are covered.

MS Office Applications - 80 Hours

Prepares students to perform functions common to all Microsoft Windows applications. Elements include the ability to create and manipulate Word, Excel, or PowerPoint applications, modify the display of toolbars and other on-screen elements, use online help, and perform file management, editing, formatting and printing functions common to most Windows applications.

Keyboarding - 20 Hours

Improves touch typing skills on a keyboard with a focus on improving speed and accuracy. This course increases job efficiency and understanding of work station ergonomics.

Business Communications - 60 Hours

Provides students with the knowledge and tools to communicate effectively and professionally in the workplace. Students are introduced to essential skills in writing, speaking, formal presentations and the use of technology to enhance workplace communication.

Customer Service - 20 Hours

Develops a foundation in customer service by focusing on building lifelong customer relationships through the development of positive customer care approaches.

Introduction to Human Resources - 20 Hours

Provides a general overview of the human resource functions that assist an organization deliver value through proper management of the employee lifecycle.

Introduction to Business - 40 Hours

Introduces students to a broad overview of the world of business. Students consider how various external factors such as government and social trends affect business and the role of economics, information technology, management, global trends, finance. human resources and production play in Canadian business.

Organizational Behavior - 80 Hours

Investigates the behavior of people within organizations for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organization’s effectiveness. Behaviours studied include individuals, individuals within a group and inter-group behavior.

Event Management - 60 Hours

Assists students in developing skills and gaining knowledge in administration, event planning and management, marketing, risk management planning, human resource management and professionalism.

Business Writing - 80 Hours

Introduces students to the fundamentals of business writing and provides students with the knowledge and techniques to hone their writing skills for the business environment. The structure and form of business documents are covered in addition to language and writing style.

Executive Management - 80 Hours

Introduces students to the knowledge, skills and tools needed to excel as an executive assistant in a professional business environment.

Employment Legislation - 20 Hours

Examines federal and provincial laws that regulate the workplace and best practices to ensure employment standards and guidelines are established.

Recruitment and Selection - 40 Hours

Explores the goals, strategies and tools for a successful recruitment and selection process.

The practicum is an essential part of a learner’s program. It is both a graduation requirement and an extension of in-class learning. The practicum asks you to apply the skills, theories, and concepts that you learned in your classes in an entry-level work experience situation. 

Practicum must begin and end within the dates outlined in your program schedule and enrolment contract. Practicum is a full-time, unpaid commitment, and is jointly-procured — where you work directly with our Practicum team to obtain a training-related placement.  Your active participation with our Practicum team in the search for your practicum placement will enhance your career development skills, industry networking opportunities, and professional communication skills.
