This course introduces students to common office procedures. Topics covered are: human relations, organization structure and office layout, office technology, front-line reception, aspects of business communication specific to the office professional, and record keeping.

Dental Office Administration I

This course is designed to help students identify the duties and responsibilities of an effective dental office administrator and how this role is pivotal to the effective daily operations of a dental office, with emphasis on dental administrative procedures, privacy policies and regulations, patient relations, record keeping guidelines, telephone communications and appointment scheduling.
The course also covers patient records in depth and the components of patient charts, both paper and electronic (computerized). Emphasis is on detailed, thorough, and complete recordkeeping. As part of the patient record, radiology is introduced and its safety is discussed to help the dental office administrator support patients with questions or objections.

Dental Office Administration II

This course will continue to provide the dental administration student with an overview of basic dental office procedures, emphasizing insurance, fee guides, financial arrangements, accounts receivable, accounts payable and basic banking. The student will be able to understand the dynamics of dental insurance and how to educate patients about their insurance benefits. The student will be able to facilitate daily financial, payroll and banking procedures.

Dental Software

Dental software is an important tool that enables dental office administrators to manage patient relationships effectively and execute on daily needs such as patient scheduling and follow ups. Dental software also provides important tools such as digital imaging and digital charting to ensure patients receive the finest oral care. This course is designed to introduce students to dental management software.

Provides a general overview of the human resource functions that assist an organization deliver value through proper management of the employee life cycle.

Keyboarding

Students will have the opportunity to Improve touch typing skills on a keyboard with a focus on improving speed and accuracy. This course increases job efficiency and understanding of work station ergonomics.

Microsoft Office Applications

This course will prepare students to perform functions common to all Microsoft Windows applications. Elements include the ability to create and manipulate Word, Excel, or PowerPoint applications, modify the display of toolbars and other on-screen elements, use online help, and perform file management, editing, formatting and printing functions common to most Windows applications.

Oral Facial Anatomy & Terminology

This course is designed to provide students with a solid understanding of dental terms and the ability to recognize and describe the anatomical structures of the head, neck and oral cavity. The student will understand and be able to describe the structure and functions of the teeth, surrounding hard and soft tissues, tooth surfaces and the eruption cycle of teeth from the deciduous to the permanent dentition.
This course also addresses the charting/recording of conditions identified by the dentist, and accurate documentation of dentition using corresponding numbering systems. In addition, the information presented in this course will help students be able to link and describe the effects of preventive dentistry to oral disease and systemic health.

Introduces students to strategies for successful job searching, interviewing, and career management. Students understand who they are, the skills they offer, what to expect from professional employment and what employers expect of them.
