Robertson College Career Training

quick answer

We’ve introduced Robertson Micro-courses to help you build your skills and gain the essential knowledge you need to jumpstart your career. Our Medical Terminology Micro-course equips you with a foundation for a rewarding career in health care and provides you with proficiency in medical terminology used by health care professionals everywhere.

We recently sat down with Karen Tintor, instructor of our Medical Terminology Micro-course, to gain a better insight on the course’s content, how the course can excel your career and why she loves teaching it. Check out the interview below!

Robertson College (RC): Tell us about yourself!

Karen Tintor (KT): I have been in the healthcare field for almost 25 years. I have worked in different hospitals across the country as a nursing assistant and a pharmacy technician. I have also been involved with Robertson for 13 of those years. I was the program coordinator for the Pharmacy program in Brandon and taught at the Winnipeg campus as well. I was also part of the accreditation for both campuses.

RC: What do you love most about being a micro-course instructor?

KT: I have taught the micro course since its inception. I love teaching this course because I can see how much the students learn through the course, see their confidence build and prepare them for the next step in their career.

RC: Who is the Medical Terminology micro course designed for and what content it covers?

KT: This course is designed for anyone. Whether you are just interested in learning medical terms or to help you take the next step in your career, this course is for you! Medical terminology is a course that helps you understand the medical language. It shows you how to break down medical terms at a glance and comprehend each part. Essentially, this course will teach you how to communicate with other healthcare professionals and clients in your field.

Another benefit is that this course is transferable to other health related diploma programs – a Medical Terminology course is typically a pre-requisite course in a health related certificate or diploma program.

RC: What would you say to encourage learners to take the course? What sort of benefit does it provide them?

KT: This course is completely flexible to learn at your own pace. It provides a great amount of medical knowledge to help you advance in your current career or help you get your foot in the door. The format makes it easy for you to follow along but if you have any questions or concerns, instructors like myself are always available and happy to help. I look forward to seeing you in this course!
